Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Psalms 17:13-15 (KJV)

When you see prosperity of the wicked, the heathen, the unbeliever, the godless, if you don’t know their end, what awaits them in eternity after death, or at the coming of the Lord, you may be tempted to fret or to question the justice of God. The heathens have their portion in this world. They have no hope of Heaven. God may allow the sinners of the world to be an instrument of Divine chastisement and discipline for the righteous. To purify the saints and separate them from the world. David took courage when he realized that their portion was earthly and temporal. He knew that when his mortal body puts on immortality he will be forever satisfied in God’s presence.
