Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.

We have heard that the essence of love is giving. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Here the Scriptures says that we should conduct our lives in love as Christ also loved us. So, the appeal here is to love with the same love He loved us, and in the same manner He showed us His love. Here we see that the way He loved us was by giving himself to God as an offering and a sacrifice for a sweet-smelling savor. Loving is giving ourselves to God so He can use us to bless someone. In this way, He gets the glory for our love deeds.
